Katuns of Sinjajevina and Durmitor

There is a growing scientific awareness that pastoral commons (local communities' based-management of pastures) are a positive management regime vis-à-vis society and sustainable environmental governance at a global scale as millions of squared kilometers around the world are managed adaptively in this way. Nevertheless, these systems are undergoing swift degradation processes world wide by different reasons. Thus, the main goals of these pictures are: 1. To identify and communicate these commons’ natural and cultural ‘heritage’ values, and 2. To examine opportunities of managing the photographic images of such values in the context of on-going and potential participatory Heritagization procedures in defense of a 250 km2 extraordinary high mountain pastoral common territory, Sinjajevina in the Southern Dinarides of Montenegro, that is today under the threat of an announced construction of an artillery camp supported by NATO that would damage irreparably this unique socio-ecosystem built through generations and generations of Montenegrin shepherds.
